Euthanasia is from a Greek word meaning good death..Most times people who are terminally ill go through with this. There are different classifications of euthanasia they include;
voluntary euthanasia
involuntary euthanasia
passive and active euthanasia.
It is a way to end someones life when it is believed that the person is suffering too much in illness that will eventually lead to death or wouldn't lead back to the persons initial wholesome functioning..Thing is this isn't legalized in so many countries including Nigeria..
In Nigeria we have what is called a living will where humans make legal decisions about how they want to be treated if they fall critically ill or become in a vegetative state. I believe its because of the way we perceive death and how we react to death in Africa .though some people believe that what we do in this country is euthanasia through the back door. So even if legal back up is given to this i don't think a lot f people will agree to be involved because most people do not like the concept of accepting the reality of death and sickness.
The plugs are pulled out from the life support machines almost every now and then in the intensive care unit but the doctors involve the relative out of respect for the patient and his rights,but is that not euthanasia through a back door? so a living will stating that the plugs should be pulled on you if the unexpected happens? is it considered suicide or peacefulness and end of suffering both on our path and the path of your relatives?
My question is should euthanasia be legalized today in this country will you be involved in it? would you see it as a way to keep you human dignity of not being aware of your environment,wearing adult pampers.tube feeding and all,or would you suffer,accumulate hospital bills and keep debts in your death and allow nature take its course?
